Barney Rootbarrel

Barney’s supernatural strength is steady and constructive, useful for rebuilding walls as well as heavy farm work. As brewmaster of Rootbarrel Brewing, he makes tonics that support the community and attract attention from beyond the farm. The brewery extends the same care through another craft: where Marnie tends damaged living ground, Barney works with what the community can grow and make.^[1][2]

The Rootbarrel name also belongs to Havyk’s rural property, Root Barrel Farm, which she rents to the family. Her commune relocated there from Hazy Meadows, also called Hazy Pastures, after clearing the medusas who had occupied it. That tenancy places the Rootbarrels within the continuing farm community without making Barney its owner or giving him the authority of the neighboring Colonel Orval Finkus.^[3]

A farmer’s strength

Barney Rootbarrel, known as Brawny, is a halfling agricultural alchemist whose work joins cultivation, building and brewing. Once a beet farmer outside the Queefdom, he helped turn abandoned land near the Glow Pools into the working commune known as Medusa’s Farm. He and Marnie Rootbarrel belong to its founding history: their shared life as farmers grew into the practical work of keeping a community fed, sheltered and able to recover.^[4][5][1][2]
