Maine

M.A.I.N.E., known simply as Maine, is a Hexelf and forged construct survivor of the M.A.I. experiments, rebuilt by void science into something part sorcerer, part warlock, part detective, and part warning. Their steel, circuits, and scars are obvious; their real weapon is Whispering, a mental manipulation gift that plants doubt, paranoia, confidence, or questions where certainty used to be. With My Alchemical Romance and the MKN Detective Agency, Maine turns trauma into tactics while searching for the other M.A.I. subjects and the truth of their own making. Power made them dangerous, but their chosen bonds may decide what they become.

During the Battle of VQU, Maine conjured a tsunami in the library, defeating Voidforged but killing hidden students; this became a lasting source of guilt. In the Lonely Islands/Void Realm, Virgil gifted Maine his grimoire. During Trixie’s Game Master Spectacle, Jeff was Maine’s prisoner. At Djeebus’s lamp studio, Djeebus attached the Warforged General’s prosthetic arm to Maine. Act 3 Point Pringle evidence revealed multiple Maine variants/alternate identities: Tono had been removed by Grease Tooth, a lawful-good version died in a lab breach, a lawful-evil version may exist, and Maine was marked as the Gravenhurst-confirmed version to be neutralized if noncompliant. In Gertie’s chaos maze, Maine recovered Tono’s locket engraved “To Tono, Love PP5.” In Act 5, Bauble and the Reborn confronted Maine over resurrection damage and guilt; Victor Shaw’s Aleklot’s Rest time-cache used TSUNAMI as a password referencing Maine’s earlier disaster. In Paulus Levius Cathedral, Maine was judged by Jonah as a self-creating person with a destructive past and received a consumable Phoenix Feather from Ewig through Paulus Levius. After the cathedral collapse, Yuri Pelosh and Stormcall Troopers accused Maine over old Hexelf rumors and recent Raiders of the Lost Park deaths; Dhaz Pelosh left with Yuri in exchange for Maine’s charges being dropped. In Vithyrex’s Maze, Maine used telekinesis to free Ash from a falling slab, was seen by the roaming Vithyrex eye and permanently lost 1 maximum hit point, opened A Candle in the Rain to gain expanded darkvision, encountered an infernal satyr, supported Arthur as a surviving MAI “brother,” fought Castro/dragonborn threats, held two heart pieces after Arthur gave him one, and escaped to Bones’s Queesum Cemetery, where he arrived alongside Enemy and another Maine variant.
