Episode 7 Leaves New Goblin City With Unfinished Rescues
2026-05-21 / Black Market, New Goblin City; stream-level Emrite settlement; cave camp
The New Goblin City thread ended with fewer clean answers than the party wanted. Brother Fidelphi Castro died before confession could become closure. The black-ooze curse took him in front of Hugo, leaving the face-wearing betrayal alive somewhere outside the moment and making Hugo's revenge story sharper instead of finished. The city itself became a maze of hostile customs and opportunistic rules. Every fee, shout, corpse, and shortcut pushed the party through a place that treated confusion as currency. They survived it, but not by becoming comfortable there. The blue Wingkin lead resolved in the strangest possible way. Valbrandt Wingkin was not dead. He was not in chains. He was being worshiped under the name Biresh, enjoying enough of the role that rescue became a question of truth rather than extraction. The party could report success to Orval Finkus, but the Emrite settlement would still be left with a false savior unless someone answered Mergel of the Blue Candle. That made Mergel the real unresolved heart of the session. He knew the performance was not enough. He wanted real Wingkin. He wanted his people to believe in something true without losing the only Emrys-following community he had. By the end, the party had left New Goblin City and made camp outside the cave. The students survived. Fidelphi did not. The blue Wingkin was found. Mergel was not free. The next road pointed north, toward the remaining Wingkin lead and the question of what the party would do with a rescue that had become more complicated than finding the missing person.
