Act 5, Episode 7, Scene 4
The Emrite Sentry Lets Them Rest Without Weapons
2026-05-21 / Stream cliff and bridge below New Goblin City
The route out of the black market ended at a drop. Twenty feet down, the stream-level path waited below New Goblin City. Ash used his tentacle arm to lower allies safely, which was practical and unsettling in equal measure. Jonah attempted a more dramatic solution with shield-surfing, but his heelies betrayed him and the attempt ended with a bad fall and a minor blow from his own shield. The stream had a gatekeeper. A light-lobed Emrite sentry blocked the bridge and told them the Wingkin were not looking for visitors. That phrasing mattered. The party had been following a rescue lead, but the sentry framed the missing blue Wingkin as someone already among friends, not a prisoner waiting to be pulled out. Negotiation nearly failed. Elmyra used inspiration to turn the conversation after disadvantage, and the sentry allowed a conditional answer: the party could take a short rest and then visit the blue Wingkin, but only disarmed. Weapons and wondrous items had to stay behind. The party earned access without combat. The price was vulnerability, trust, and the possibility that the rescue was about to become much less simple than finding someone in chains.
