Act 5, Episode 5, Scene 43
Hugo Keeps the Gloves Vic Throws Away
2026-04-23 / Abandoned chapel / necromancer hut
Once the chapel stopped trying to kill everyone, it started handing out the Vayne family's leftovers. Vic smashed through chapel doors and found Vayne-labeled boxes. He took seven gold and a magical sickle, then discarded a pair of gloves because he thought they were useless. Hugo quietly knew better. He identified and pocketed the Gloves of Rotting Flesh, letting the party's noise become his opportunity. The chapel gave up more than that. The party recovered the Wand of Anime Boyfriend, the Sickle of Corpse Bloom, and the Pillow of False Life. Every item felt shaped by the same warped emotional logic as the diaries: necromancy used for comfort, protection, control, and denial until love became equipment and grief became a mechanic. Even the gloves had teeth. They made unarmed strikes magical and necrotic. The loot was useful, but it was not neutral. It belonged to a family system that had tried to solve fear with undead bodies and magical substitutes. Taking it meant carrying pieces of that story forward. Vic wanted the obvious prize. Hugo took the thing that looked useless until it touched flesh.
