Act 5, Episode 5, Scene 42
The Chapel Belongs to the Vayne Family's Old Rot
2026-04-23 / Abandoned chapel / necromancer hut
The dead necromancer was not just a dead necromancer. Loot and diaries connected the chapel to the Vayne family. Jonah remembered Jed Vance, the former VQU coach, and followed the thread to Mortis: Mortellus Vayne, the necromancer who created the mass-resurrection scroll Baron used to revive the Duskborn. That made the chapel part of a much older chain. Mortellus had made undead boyfriends for Aria Vayne after a deal with Gertie gave Aria's firstborn to the hag. What looked at first like a grotesque little ruin became a record of protection curdled into control: a father using necromancy to prevent a future child from being claimed, and in doing so leaving behind another set of bodies, diaries, and tools for strangers to pick through. Aria Vayne was also the Blue Hair Girl known around Pink Pony Tavern circles. Havyk, meanwhile, currently held Mortellus's second mass-resurrection scroll. That detail pulled the old VQU, Vayne, Duskborn, Gertie, Pink Pony, and Havyk threads together in one rotting chapel. The party came looking for a missing dragonborn. They found a family history that refused to stay buried.
