Jonah recognized one of the Blue Wingkin from the Vithyrex labyrinth refugees, which made Root Barrel Farm harder to read. This was not a nameless worker. This was someone with a before, a captivity, and a connection to the maze the party had just escaped. Elmyra privately whispered to ask whether the dragonborn were being treated okay, and the answer landed in the uncomfortable middle. The farm was better than the void prisons. That did not mean it was good. The reply clarified the shape of the moral problem. Orval Finkus could be offering shelter to people Gravenhurst would not accept after Castro displaced them. He could also be using gratitude, fear, and necessity to keep refugees in a labor system that felt too controlled to be clean. The continuity sharpened too. The earlier dragonborn captors once understood as Githyanki were now clarified as Castro forces, tying the old void-prison material more directly to the present Castro threat. Root Barrel Farm was not only suspicious because Orval seemed suspicious. It was suspicious because survival had been made conditional there, and everyone knew the alternative had been worse.
