After the bridge incident, the party had to survive the consequences of itself.

Elmyra and Vic both openly questioned how the team functioned at all. It was not an unfair question. They had tried to cross a bridge and ended up with a troll corpse, Morgan possessed, Vic attacked, necromantic detonation, Katrine Draxler arriving through a portal, a legal fine, and Morgan unconscious from a family flask.

That is a lot for one bridge.

Ash restrained Morgan. Jonah used Hold Person on Vic. The group had to physically and emotionally reset before it could continue toward the farm. Morgan was carried unconscious after Katrine drugged her, which meant the party moved forward with its necromancer temporarily removed from the conversation and its newest members freshly aware of the group's standard operating condition.

Maine's absence mattered here.

He had been an unstable center, but he had still been a center. Without him, Elmyra's leadership did not solve the dysfunction. It revealed it. Vic said he was being given very few outs not to kill them, and Elmyra kept circling the same basic question.

Why could they not simply cross a bridge?
