Vic Vaurr found a room that understood exactly where to press.

It was ornate, staged like a private trial: a mirror, a table, nine holes, and a dagger. The mirror did not show him a clean reflection. It showed his hound killing itself and bleeding through the glass, turning the missing-dog search into something cruel, intimate, and immediate.

Vithyrex's Maze loved that kind of pain.

The room was not asking Vic to solve a simple lock. It wanted him to name the shape of love when love was twisted into hunger, loyalty, panic, and fear of loss. After trial and pain, Vic placed the dagger in the hole that matched his hound's nature. The room accepted the answer. The way opened.

The reward was the Dagger of Hunger.

Braska helped by recognizing the alignment-hole logic after seeing his own mother in the mirror, which made the trial feel less like a one-person hallucination and more like another system in the maze. Everyone who looked too closely got shown something that could hurt them.

Vic left with a weapon.

He did not leave with comfort.
