Act 5, Episode 3, Scene 34
The Guardians Demand the Right Kind of Force
2026-02-12 / Wish office
Jonah rejected the debt, and Paulus Levius answered with a test made of contrast. Two guardian constructs dropped into the wish office. One was black, necrotic, and hungry with the shape of death. The other was white, radiant, and punishing with the shape of holy force. Their auras overlapped the room like spirit guardians turned into an accounting problem. The first instinct was to hit hard. Maine twin-cast Shatter. Ash threw darts. Jonah called up Spirit Guardians, filling the trial with little genie-like figures around him. But the room did not reward simple damage. The wrong force slipped away, resisted or ignored by the wrong target. The puzzle emerged through pain. Radiance needed to answer the black guardian. Necrosis needed to answer the white. The trial was not only asking whether Jonah could fight. It was asking whether he could understand creation through opposition: light against death, death against light, contrast used with purpose rather than hoarded as power. Paulus Levius had demanded payment. The room demanded comprehension.
