Act 5, Episode 2, Scene 7
Temple's Powered Critters
2025-11-20 / Bearfell gate
Temple Ironhoof's work made the road feel wider than the road. After the Evan panic, she explained what she actually studied: empowered animals, critters that could learn and develop powers instead of remaining ordinary pets attached to extraordinary people. The examples sounded half ridiculous until the implications caught up. Cows could learn pyrokinesis. Ducks might someday cast lightning. In another mouth, that would have sounded like a joke and stopped there. From Temple, it became a mechanical doorway into the world: animals, familiars, pets, and companions could become power-bearing participants in Jericha's systems. Not mascots. Not only flavor. Creatures with growth, training, and advancement of their own. That mattered for future companions. It also reframed the way the world treats power. Aspects and magical development were not only humanoid concerns. If critters could learn and level powers, then farms, wilderness, labs, and road stops might all hide creatures whose abilities were still waking up. Temple's explanation stayed grounded. No breeding program, no automatic shortcut, no cheap production line unless the party forced the world that way later. The important piece was growth: animal companions could learn, change, and become involved in the same strange rules reshaping everyone else. Bearfell did not only introduce Astrid's sister. It introduced a future where the smallest creature in the room might still be leveling.
