The answer reached backward and sideways through time.

Victor had already cleared this dungeon during a time-travel mission with Trixie and Exuba. He had seen enough, taken enough, and prepared enough to leave a protected cache where the party would eventually find it. The chest was not merely treasure. It was evidence that Victor's plans had crossed the party's current timeline before they arrived.

The dungeon had held a dragon.
