For the Aboleth

Morgan came back because Jeremiah chose to spend power on her. After the dragon withdrew from the stairway, Jeremiah Shadowplay knelt beside Morgan and cast Revivify. The words around the miracle mattered almost as much as the spell. He returned her to life for the Aboleth. That made the rescue difficult to sort cleanly. Morgan was alive again. The party needed her alive. But Jeremiah's help did not arrive as ordinary mercy. It arrived wrapped in devotion, claim, and pressure from something already tangled around Ash's own tentacle origin. As the group moved forward with poison creeping behind them, Jeremiah showed one radiant hand and one void-lit hand, insisting that he was one with the Aboleth. Ash pushed back. He had not wanted the Aboleth path, not truly. He had chosen the tentacle out of desperation, under circumstances that were already looking more deceptive than holy or destined. Oskar answered with the kind of grim comfort that does not let anyone off the hook: fate is not always about choices. The dragon had retreated. The Aboleth problem had not.
