Act 3, Episode 1, Scene 4
The Vines in the Cracked Crucible
2025-04-17 / Glass Ritz Enclave / Lower Foundry Ward
With dinner still a few hours away, the Ex Force tried to learn Point Pringle by walking through it. The city did not feel like a thriving capital of invention. It felt like an old machine that still made noise in some places and rusted quietly in others. The pamphlet promised districts full of Witchborn labs, private guild halls, alchemical testing zones, and volatile fields of innovation. The reality was thinner. They made their way toward the Glass Ritz Enclave. There, three sites stood out: the Lab of the Inspired Spark, the Cracked Crucible, and the Wayfinder Chimera Range. The range looked like a test field being slowly dismantled. The Cracked Crucible was worse: an abandoned lab with collapsed tanks, squatters, charlatans pretending to be researchers, and wild vines crawling through the old structure. The vines had grown overnight. An older nature mage in green robes carried a small pot of flowers and explained that she had watched the change happen. The growth had appeared suddenly, then kept spreading. She did not seem alarmed in the way a guard might be, but she knew it was unusual. Point Pringle had not been a druid's city for a long time. She explained the old economy in simple terms. Before Centrum stability, Pringle crisps mattered because they lasted. They could keep people alive when ordinary food and magic were not enough. That invention had made Point Pringle wealthy and industrial. But when the Centrum made survival easier, the old need faded. People still liked the taste, but liking the taste was not the same thing as needing the product. Now the city still made crisps, but not much else with the same certainty. The Ex Force moved through foundry wards, old protest spaces, cracked tram foundations, sealed workshops, and half-empty districts. Point Pringle was not dead. It was diminished, improvised, and full of strange growth in places where industry had failed. That made the vines feel less like decoration and more like a sign.
