Leaving Queef Tower Changed

Baron von Queef ended the night by doing what Baron von Queef did best: turning disaster back toward his own project.

Bon von Bovi was dead. Rice Hands was dead. Nick had been transformed. Lucian Vale had been exposed. Hags had torn through the estate under cover of magical darkness, and the promise of the masquerade had collapsed into murder, soul-loss, and political scandal.

Baron still cleared the house like a host closing an event.

He forced the guests to leave, thanked the adventurers for what they had done, and kept the machinery of New VQU moving. The offer remained on the table: five hundred gold to join the new VQU's first class. Even after everything, Baron was still recruiting. Even after death entered the room, he was still building the story he wanted others to live inside.

That made the ending feel wrong in the way Queef Tower often did.

The night had proven the estate vulnerable, the city unstable, and Baron's new era already contaminated by enemies, contracts, and old violence. Yet the invitation did not disappear. The school did not stop being dangled as opportunity. The future kept asking for signatures while the present was still bleeding.

The groups returned to Gravenhurst with Rice Hands' corpse.

That body changed the ride home more than any speech could. The crossover was no longer a novelty of two adventuring groups sharing a party. It was a shared trauma now, something carried physically out of Queef Tower and back into the city.

Nick held I.J.'s hand.

That small image belonged beside Rice Hands' body because both were consequences. One character had been lost beyond restoration. Another had survived by becoming undead. The masquerade had not simply advanced the plot. It had altered people.

By the time they left the estate, the New VQU hook, the Abyss conspiracy, Bon's murder, Rice Hands' death, and Nick's transformation were all active at once.

Baron had wanted the night to announce a new era.

It did.
