Act 2, Episode 5, Scene 24
Podon Goes Deeper
2025-03-06 / Hidden sewer passage
The hidden door opened onto another choice the party did not have the strength to take. Podon did not wait for them. The moment the passage revealed itself, he rushed forward, still chasing C-Ment through whatever strange logic guided him. He had been searching for his daughter through Boost trails, sewer rumors, and half-seen doors. Now, faced with a passage where little red-capped figures had apparently come and gone, he chose motion over caution. The party watched him disappear deeper into the hidden route. Jonah wanted to follow. That was Jonah's instinct: someone was lost, someone was in danger, and the group had found a path. Even after the Rat King, the false Blastbelle, the red caps, the stash, and the hidden Graven Scourge casualties, the moral shape of the thing still pulled him forward. Podon was searching for his daughter. A staircase descended beyond the passage. The route might lead toward the Graven Scourge hideout, the red-cap movement path, or something connected to both. That was exactly why the choice hurt. The party was exhausted. They had been through too much sewer, too much poison, too many locked doors, too many factions, and too many mysteries in one stretch. Their resources were thin. Their bodies were battered. Jonah's ice form was powerful, but it was also temporary, strange, and not a substitute for a real rest. The group had already opened a door they probably could not safely explore. Maine voted to rest. The others agreed. Jonah bowed to the group's decision, even though it meant leaving Podon to the deeper dark for now. That did not close the thread. It made it sharper. C-Ment remained missing. Podon had found a lead and followed it. The hidden sewer route remained open in the story even if the party could not enter it that morning. They turned back. The route out took them through the old path, back past the disturbed camp, the broken bridge, and the sewer evidence that the undercity was still moving around them. They climbed up through the Glow Pools and emerged into early morning Gravenhurst. The city was beginning to wake while they carried out a night of impossible evidence: a Fey note, a Void diamond, stolen Guild treasure, a Rat King Crown, and the knowledge that someone had worn Blastbelle's face. The sewer arc did not end with everything solved. It ended with the party choosing survival over one more descent. Behind them, Podon kept searching. Ahead of them, the surface had already been compromised.
