The stash door had survived bombs, tools, and the wrong key. Now the party had the right one. That did not mean anyone trusted the door. They returned to it with Jonah still wrapped in ice, red-cap blood still fresh behind them, and the Fey note tucked away as proof they could not yet read. The vault waited at the dead end, split down the middle with a keyhole that looked ordinary only if one forgot everything that had happened in the last hour. Maine tried the safe version first. Mage Hand carried the Rat King key toward the lock, invisible except for the floating metal. The key reached the opening, and the door answered with a small spark of magic. The spell was pushed away. Whatever ward protected the vault did not allow a distant hand, a trick hand, or a harmless hand to cheat the act of opening it. Someone had to use the key physically. That made everyone pause. Victor looked at his stump. He had the most Victor answer possible: carve a slot into the wooden stump, set the key into it, and use the stump as the hand that took the risk. If the door punished flesh, it would get wood. Jonah blessed him before the attempt, because even a clever workaround deserved the Creator's protection when Fey infiltrators and Thieves Guild vaults were involved. Victor turned the key. The lock clicked. The door did not open yet, but the click changed it. On either side of the keyhole, hidden parts of the wall shifted inward, revealing handles. The mechanism had been waiting for someone to use it correctly, not just unlock it. After all the caution, investigation, and suspicion, the party discovered the next part of the puzzle was almost insulting in its simplicity. Push did nothing. Pull worked. The heavy door swung open into an old storage room. It was not a glittering treasure chamber at first glance. It was controlled, protected, and layered: a room beyond the first door, then containers and another gated section waiting inside. This was not random sewer loot. This was a deliberate cache, secured with magic, physical-use wards, and multiple locks. The first sewer key had opened the outer vault. The earlier iron key, found in the hidden room's clothes chest, finally had its place. Dhaz took it to the inner gate with Jonah's guidance behind him. The key slid in cleanly, almost perfectly, and the second lock gave way. The party had carried both answers through the sewer without knowing how they fit together: one key from the Rat King's nest, one from the recent hideout, both needed before the stash would fully yield. The doors were open now. Behind them waited the prize the false Blastbelle had wanted badly enough to keep pushing, lying, and eventually breaking shape. The party had reached the Thieves Guild stash. Now they had to learn what was inside.
