Dhaz opened the locked chest carefully enough that the lock gave up without much protest. At first, the contents looked almost ordinary: fine clothes, better than common travel wear, folded and stored as if someone had expected to come back for them. The chest felt like personal property, not abandoned trash. Then Dhaz kept searching beneath the outfits and found the pieces that mattered. A small bottle. An iron key. And a book written in Draconic. Maine could read the title: The Alignment of Jericha: The Power Nine. That changed the room. The party had come down into the sewers for Thieves Guild loot, Rat King territory, and whatever evidence might connect Boost, Graven Scourge movement, and the hidden stash. Instead, they found a portable cosmology text sitting at the bottom of a clothes trunk in a recently used hideout. Maine could not translate the entire book on the spot, but he could read enough to understand its shape. Early pages showed an alignment-like diagram and chapter headings naming the Power Nine as forces of Jericha. The names were not abstract to the party. They touched threads already moving around them. Sister Trance, guardian of the natural world. Djeebus the Creator, force of endless innovation. A cosmic force of madness and love. The Aboleth, keeper of ancient knowledge. Ewig the Phoenix, unstoppable cycle of rebirth. Trixie the Game Master, trickster force of chaos and tide. The Demon, enforcer of winter's wrath. Gertie the Collector, hag queen of lost things. Emerson the Dragon God, supreme guardian of dragon magic. The list made the world feel less like scattered mysteries and more like a hidden structure the party had been walking through without a map. Jonah heard Djeebus named as the Creator and reacted immediately. It was not the Creator exactly as he had been taught, but it was close enough, powerful enough, and strange enough to matter. He wanted to hear more, though not all of it could be handled in that sewer room. Ash saw the Aboleth in the list and felt that pressure land near his own thread. Emerson's name reached toward dragon magic and Victor's wider orbit. Gertie turned the hag problem into something larger than a single masquerade horror. Trixie made the game-masterly chaos of Jericha feel less like coincidence and more like a force with a name. The book was not only loot. It was context. Then the sewers reminded them that context did not mean safety. While the party discussed the Power Nine, voices outside the room grew into a louder argument somewhere across the way. Blastbelle warned that several groups could be moving down here: Thieves Guild people, Graven Scourge, and people drifting toward the drug den. The mission had not paused for the lore reveal. The lore had simply joined the mission. The chest had given them fine clothes, a bottle, an iron key, and a book that could reframe the campaign. Outside the door, the sewers kept talking.
