The short rest changed the shape of the party.
Nick Kremp and Victor Shaw returned to Gravenhurst to handle other matters, leaving Ash, Maine, Jonah, Dhaz Pelosh, and Blastbelle to continue the sewer-stash mission. The group was smaller now, freshly healed but still standing inside a room that did not quite belong to the Thieves Guild and did not feel abandoned enough to be ignored.
Blastbelle clarified the geography as best she could.
This was not one of her rooms. It was on the other side from Valara the Blade's main camp and far enough away from the Guild's normal setup that, if someone had been staying here, they were probably operating on their own. That made the room useful and suspicious at the same time.
Ash took that seriously.
Before they moved deeper, he wanted the room searched for signs of surveillance, hidden magic, or anything that might explain who had used it. The search confirmed what the room had already suggested: someone had been living here recently. Not comfortably, not permanently, but recently enough that the traces still had weight.
The barrels of food had gone rotten, but only by a week or two. The drawers were mostly empty, though a few looked untouched. Twenty gold pieces sat scattered on the table. A balanced, well-made handaxe turned out to be enchanted, and Ash passed it toward Jonah with the sort of awkward practical reverence that made the exchange feel very much like them.
There was also a locked chest.
That changed the room from shelter to evidence.
The chest suggested privacy, property, maybe a person who expected to return. Dhaz had the tools and the steadiness to open it, but the moment before the lock gave way mattered. The party had already learned that the sewers were not only a route to an old stash. They were layered territory: Thieves Guild edges, Graven Scourge pressure, Boost movement, Rat King warnings, and now a recent hideout outside the obvious faction lines.
The reduced party stood at the threshold of the next clue.
The room had given them gold, a weapon, and proof that someone had been nearby.
The chest would tell them what kind of person.
