Ash reached Cynthia's cave first with Virgil over his shoulder. The warmth inside felt different now. Before, it had been refuge. This time, it was triage. Cynthia looked up from her work and pointed him toward a hemp cocoon prepared for exactly this kind of disaster, something she and Virgil had ready for the days when the Void World tried to break one of them beyond ordinary care. Virgil went inside. The cocoon closed around him as a promise more than a cure: not instant safety, but a chance to be pulled back into shape. Cynthia kept working, splitting her attention between her husband's recovery and the teleportation circle she had promised the party. The bargain had been kept. They found Virgil. She would send them home. For a moment, the cave almost became gentle again. Maine returned with the others and offered Cynthia the cave mushrooms he had gathered from the den, because even in the middle of rescue, panic, and loot, he had decided they matched her vibe. Cynthia accepted them and tossed them into a pile that looked like part snack, part supply, part druid logic. Then Ash asked about Virgil. More specifically, Ash asked about Cynthia marrying a drow in a way that made the room colder than the mountain outside. Cynthia did not laugh. Virgil was not a curiosity to her. He was her husband, a great warlock, and someone the party had just risked themselves to save. Ash's wording turned a rescued man into a species comment, and Cynthia's patience ended. She tried to magically stop him from speaking. Ash resisted, which did not improve anything. The teleportation circle was ready enough for one decision. Ash went first. Cynthia sent him through before the rest, not as a reward but as removal. One moment he was in the cave; the next, he arrived back in Gravenhurst outside Astrid's shop, separated from the group by the exact route everyone else was about to take. The rescue had succeeded. Virgil was alive. The way home was open. But the party did not leave the Void Realm untouched, and Ash did not leave Cynthia's cave with her approval.
