# **Act 1 — Episode 5 — Scene 6**
_The Ruins of VQU_
---
**[NARRATION]** The world reassembled around them in pieces — smell first, then heat, then light. It was not the same school they had arrived at a few weeks ago.
The air reeked of scorched stone and wet ash. The ground crunched with every step, glass and bone in equal measure. Silence ruled here now, the kind that follows screaming when the screaming no longer matters.
---
**[NARRATION]** Nora stood with her back to them, her green skin shifting hues slowly as she tried to maintain her composure.
---
**NORA** (flat, holding something back) It's not safe for you here. There may still be survivors… my son among them. I will stay. You must go.
---
**[NARRATION]** Her voice carried no warmth — just the tinge of obligation and satisfaction of remembering a last step. She turned only long enough to thrust a set of directions into Maine’s hands, the paper soft from being folded and unfolded too many times.
---
**NORA** Follow the sewers. Don’t stop. Don’t play hero. If you see monsters, you run. At the cemetery… follow the friendly faces.
---
**[NARRATION]** No one argued. The world around them argued enough.
---
**[NARRATION]** They began to move, their boots dragging through puddles thick with the runoff of destruction.
The library doors still stood, half off their hinges, water lapping at the threshold. The flood he had summoned was retreating now, sliding back into the grates with the last sigh of a dying tide.
---
**[NARRATION]** And then the bodies came — caught, tangled, pushed forward by the current until they bumped softly against the frame. Students. Faces he knew. They had hidden here from the Forged, tucked behind shelves and wards that could not withstand the weight of a wish.
