# **Act 1 — Episode 5 — Scene 1** _The Elevator Climb → Library Ambush → Maine’s Tsunami_ --- **[NARRATION]** The elevator shaft was a throat of iron swallowing them upward, one straining pull at a time. The sound of their boots against the cold metal echoed in dull, uneven beats, each one swallowed too quickly by the silence above. The cables swayed faintly, moaning under the shifting weight. The air smelled like dust baked by old magic, sharp and faintly metallic — the scent of a building holding its breath. The higher they climbed, the more oppressive the absence became. No voices in the halls. No hum of spellcraft. No footsteps. Even the faint light from the old fashioned light strips had been snuffed out, leaving the groans of their ascent as the only sign the world was still turning. Nick was the first to pull himself into the hallway. His boots met the marble with a muted _thunk_, the sound oddly hollow — as if the stone had forgotten how to be walked on. The others followed, their movements a low shuffle against the unnatural stillness. --- **NICK** (quietly) Feels like a trap. Should I cast Fireball? --- **[NARRATION]** Maine’s fingers twitched, reflexively sketching the pattern of a detection glyph in the air. The faint hum of arcane lines sang against his skin, only to sputter and dissolve like ink in water. No trace of magic came back to him — no wards, no glamours, not even the faint residue that clings to a long-used corridor. Just nothing. --- **MAINE** (flat, unsettled) At what? It’s clean. Too clean. --- **[NARRATION]** They moved toward the library, their footsteps pressing into the silence until the grand doors yawned open before them. Inside, rows of shelves stood like funeral pillars, the faint smell of leather and parchment curling through the stagnant air. Shafts of pale light spilled from the high windows, painting the floor in fractured geometry. Then came the break — the sudden scrape of steel feet on stone, the grind of gears chewing through the quiet. Voidforged stepped out from behind the shelves. One. Two. Four. Eight. Their eyes burned with mechanical precision, the dull _click-click_ of readied weapons building into a rhythm that felt almost like applause. --- **NICK** (low, to Maine) Guess we found the missing noise. --- **[NARRATION]** The first bolt hit the marble where Maine had been standing a heartbeat earlier, shattering into sparks and smoke. Another slammed into a desk, splintering the wood with a sharp crack. The sound of battle bloomed instantly — the ring of steel against steel, the hiss of magic drawn from nothing. Maine exhaled, slow and deliberate. The air seemed to thicken around him, heavy with the pull of a deeper current. A low roar began at the edges of hearing, building, growing, until the library was trembling under it. The wooden shelves shuddered like trees in a rising wind. The roar became a tidal scream. Water burst into existence above the aisles, a wall of churning blue that swallowed the light. It crashed down with the weight of an ocean, tearing through the ranks of the Forged. Metal bodies slammed into stone pillars, books were ripped into spinning confetti, and the air filled with the violent percussion of waves hammering everything in their path. When the water finally surged out through the shattered windows, silence returned — heavier now, as though the morning was mourning what it had just seen.
