The Trap
2098 MB / First wire chamber
## **EPISODE 4, SCENE 2 – “The Trap”** [NARRATION] They followed the first vein like it owed them answers. The passage narrowed as they walked—fleshy walls lined with twitching neurons, pulsing in sync with something old and unseen. The scent was faintly metallic. The light, pulsing. The atmosphere was cerebral — like a therapist's manifestation gone wrong. [NARRATION: SFX] _SPHT-SPHT-SPHT_ Every step squelched. A wet ballet on a brain’s forgotten floorboards. [NARRATION] The chamber opened suddenly, revealing a chasm—black and bottomless. A suspended bridge of thin, pale tendons stretched across it, slick with thought-oil and doubt. At the far side, embedded in a fleshy node, was the wire. Pulsing. Waiting. Tempting. Void-Ash remained at the threshold, still silent. A shadow that judged but never offered counsel. **MAINE** (looking over the edge): “That’s not a drop. That’s a deletion.” **JONAH** (clutching his holy symbol): “Any bets that brain goo is lava?” **NICK KREMP** (already cracking his knuckles): “Only one way to find out.” [NARRATION] Darius didn’t hesitate. He lifted Nick like a sack of magical potatoes and hurled him across the chasm with all the grace of a soldier skipping a particularly dangerous rock. [NARRATION: SFX] _WHOOSH—THMP._ Nick landed, barely sticking the dismount. The tendons wobbled beneath his feet like nerves second-guessing their own existence. **NICK** (half-laughing, half-panicked): “Thanks for the trauma bonding.” **DARIUS** (grinning): “Get the wire. We’ll figure out the return trip later.” [NARRATION] Nick crept forward. Each step a betrayal of his better judgment. He reached the wire. It hummed. Whispered. Asked questions no spell could translate. He grabbed it. [NARRATION: SFX] _TSSSSK._ The tendon bridge shuddered like a lie exposed. Nick turned back, wire in hand—and then, the magic fizzled. His teleport spell coughed and died mid-incantation. He froze. The bridge flexed. And then it betrayed him. [NARRATION: SFX] _CRACK—SCHLRUUP—AAARGHHHHHH._ Nick fell. He fell into the pink-grey matter below—sinking, drowning, devoured by memory sludge that tasted like regret and sounded like someone else’s scream. [NARRATION] For a moment, the others stood frozen. Then: [NARRATION: SFX] _SCHLORCH._ Nick erupted upward, flung out of the pit like an unwanted memory. He landed hard—both fists buried in the floor, **chains of infernal iron** lashed tight to his forearms. At the ends of those chains: **twin scythes**, sleek, jagged, and screaming in a language only curses remember. **NICK** (standing slowly): “I got it.” [NARRATION] He didn’t say anything else. He threw one of the scythes like it had always belonged to him. It snagged the wire and pulled it across the chasm. He coiled the chain around his wrist, tucked the weapon beneath his robe, and walked past the others without looking them in the eye. **DARIUS** (low): “Everything okay?” **NICK** (flatly): “Yeah.” [NARRATION] He was lying. [NARRATION: SFX] _CLINK._ The sound of chains tightening. _THUM-THUMP._ The brain beating faster. _A hiss. A tremor. A distant scrape of something waking up._ [NARRATION] They had the first wire. Two to go. The hallway ahead darkened slightly, like a nervous system dimming the lights in preparation.
