Matter Ingestion
Matter Ingestion is an imported aspect from the Jericha Aspect Data sheet. Its full lore and named powers can be expanded here as the canon text is added.
What This Aspect Does
Matter Ingestion defines a character's supernatural focus, training profile, resource model, and power family. This page is structured so each separate power can become its own linked entry instead of being buried inside a character sheet.
Power Links
Iron Stomach
You can safely chew and digest mundane raw food, spoiled food, leather, wood, soft stone, bone, and common metals in small amounts. You have advantage on CON saves against ingested poison and disease from food or drink.
Bite Sample
Make a melee power attack with your bite or jaws against one creature or object within reach. On a hit, the target takes 4 (1d8) piercing damage. If the target is an unattended object, you may consume a small sample of it.
Consume Substance
Consume a handful of mundane material such as wood, stone, iron, glass, cloth, bone, or clay. For the duration, gain advantage on checks made to identify, track, break, craft, or move through that material.
Hard Chew
Make a bite attack against one creature or object within reach. On a hit, the target takes 7 (2d6) piercing damage. Objects and structures take double damage from this attack if they are made of a material you have consumed within the last hour.
Digestive Purge
When you fail a CON save against poison, disease, spoiled food, venom, or a harmful swallowed substance, reroll the save and add your STR modifier. You must use the new result.
Material Scent
Choose one material you have consumed within the last day. For the duration, you know the direction to the nearest significant amount of that material in the emanation, and you have advantage on checks to locate it.
Stonebelly
If you have consumed stone, metal, bone, or shell within the last hour, your body hardens. Gain temporary hit points equal to 2d8 + your STR modifier, and you have advantage on saves against being poisoned until the temporary hit points are gone.
Bitter Resistance
Consume a sample of acid, poison, fire-blackened material, frozen material, charged metal, or necrotic residue. Choose the matching damage type: acid, poison, fire, cold, lightning, or necrotic. You gain resistance to that damage type for the duration.
Ravenous Bite
Make a bite attack against one creature or object within reach. On a hit, the target takes 13 (3d8) piercing damage, and you regain hit points equal to your STR modifier if the target is a creature or magical object.
Break Down Matter
Touch one nonmagical object or 5-ft. section of nonmagical material. If it is not worn or carried, deal 18 (4d8) acid damage to it and consume loose fragments or residue. If it is worn or carried, the bearer may make a DEX save to prevent the damage.
Devour Element
When you take acid, cold, fire, lightning, necrotic, poison, or thunder damage, reduce the damage by 3d8 + your STR modifier. Until the end of your next turn, your next bite or Matter Ingestion power deals extra damage of the triggering type equal to your STR modifier.
Adaptive Digestion
You can digest nonmagical solid material at a steady pace, including stone and metal. You are immune to disease and have resistance to poison damage. You can identify a material’s mundane properties by tasting a harmless sample.
Acidic Maw
For the duration, your bite attacks deal an extra 2d6 acid damage, and your bite attacks ignore resistance to damage from nonmagical objects and structures.
Matter Spit
Spit compressed fragments of matter at one creature within range. Make a ranged power attack. On a hit, the target takes 18 (4d8) bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, or acid damage, chosen from a material you consumed within the last hour.
Consume Enchantment
Bite or swallow part of a magical residue, ward, potion, scroll, or unattended magic object within reach. One ongoing magical effect of Tier 4 or lower on the target ends if you succeed on a STR check against DC 10 + the effect’s tier. If you end an effect, gain temporary hit points equal to 4d8 + your STR modifier.
Reinforced Flesh
Consume metal, stone, bone, hide, shell, glass, or crystal. Choose one: +2 AC, resistance to bludgeoning damage, resistance to piercing damage, resistance to slashing damage, or advantage on STR checks and saves. The benefit lasts for the duration.
Chew Through
Bite into a nonmagical barrier, object, or structure. Each round while you maintain this power and remain adjacent to the target, deal 27 (6d8) acid damage to it. If this opens a passage, the opening is large enough for one Medium creature to squeeze through.
Bolus Burst
Expel corrosive slurry and hard fragments in a cone. Creatures in the cone must make a DEX save, taking 27 (6d8) acid or piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Objects in the area take the damage automatically.
Perfect Metabolism
You no longer need ordinary food while you can consume at least one pound of solid matter per day. You are immune to ingested poison and disease, and you have resistance to acid and poison damage.
Devouring Charge
Move up to your speed in a straight line and make one bite attack. On a hit, the target takes 36 (8d8) piercing or acid damage and must make a STR save or be knocked prone. Objects and structures take double damage.
Digestive Alchemy
Consume up to 25 pounds of mundane material and convert it into one simple mundane object of equal or lesser mass that could reasonably be made from the consumed material. The object emerges cleanly into your hands or an adjacent space.
Swallow Power
When a power of Tier 5 or lower targets only you and has a visible, ingestible, or energy-projectile form, make a STR check against DC 10 + the power’s tier. On a success, the power has no effect on you and you gain temporary hit points equal to 5d8 + your STR modifier.
Aspect Appetite
Consume a sample associated with one damage type or material source. Choose acid, cold, fire, lightning, necrotic, poison, psychic, radiant, thunder, force, metal, stone, plant, bone, or crystal. For the duration, gain resistance to that type or advantage on saves against effects from that material source.
Greater Devouring Bite
Make a bite attack against one creature, object, or magical effect within reach. On a hit, the target takes 44 (8d10) piercing or acid damage. If the target is a magical effect of Tier 6 or lower and you hit its AC or succeed on a STR check against DC 10 + its tier, the effect ends.
Matter Reservoir
You can store inert consumed matter in a harmless extradigestive reserve equal to 100 pounds plus 20 pounds per character level. As an action, you may produce any stored mundane material into your hands or an adjacent space.
Regenerative Meal
Consume at least one pound of solid matter from your reserve or surroundings. You regain 44 (8d10) hit points and may end one poisoned, diseased, or exhaustion effect of Tier 6 or lower affecting you.
Devour Ward
When you would take damage or be affected by an ongoing magical effect of Tier 7 or lower, consume the incoming force. Reduce the damage by 7d8 + your STR modifier, or make a STR check against DC 10 + the effect’s tier to end the effect on yourself.
Titanic Appetite
Consume up to a 10-ft. cube of unattended mundane matter over the duration, or a 5-ft. cube of magical but unattended matter if it is not an Artifact. You can choose to store the consumed matter in your Matter Reservoir or reduce it to harmless residue.
Borrowed Composition
Consume at least one pound of a material. For the duration, your body takes on a safe trait from that material: stone grants resistance to bludgeoning, metal grants +2 AC, rubber grants resistance to lightning, glass grants advantage on Stealth in bright light, wood grants advantage on saves against forced movement, and similar traits may be approved by the GM.
Matter Eruption
Expel stored matter in a violent burst. Creatures of your choice in the emanation must make a DEX save, taking 44 (8d10) bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, or acid damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. You choose the damage type from stored matter.
World-Eater Form
For the duration, you have resistance to acid, poison, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, your bite attacks ignore resistance, and once per turn when you damage an object or structure, deal extra acid damage equal to your STR modifier plus your proficiency bonus.
Consume Spellwork
Touch one magical effect, ward, conjured object, or unattended magic item that is not an Artifact. Ongoing effects of Tier 8 or lower end if you succeed on a STR check against DC 10 + the effect’s tier. If you end an effect, you regain hit points equal to 8d8 + your STR modifier.
Gluttonous Aura
Matter around you softens to your appetite. Nonmagical objects and structures in the emanation lose resistance to your Matter Ingestion powers. Hostile creatures that start their turn in the emanation while wearing metal, stone, bone, or leather armor must make a STR save or have speed halved until the start of their next turn.
Devouring Passage
Consume a tunnel, door, breach, or passage through up to 30 ft. of non-Artifact material. The passage can be up to 10 ft. wide and 10 ft. high. Creatures and attended objects are not consumed, but are safely pushed to the nearest open space.
Sovereign Metabolism
You are immune to poison and disease, have resistance to acid damage, and ignore resistance to acid and piercing damage from your Matter Ingestion powers. You can consume magical matter that is not Artifact-grade if it is unattended or willingly offered.
Consume Catastrophe
When you would take damage from a power, attack, hazard, or environmental effect, reduce the damage to 0 if the effect is Tier 9 or lower. You then regain hit points equal to 10d10 + your STR modifier and may choose one damage type from the triggering effect to gain resistance to for 1 hour.
Refine the Impossible
Consume up to 100 pounds of mundane or magical non-Artifact material and refine it into a rare mundane material, alchemical reagent, crafting component, or GM-approved substitute worth no more than the consumed material. This cannot create currency, Artifacts, souls, or unique story materials.
Matter Collapse
Choose one non-Artifact object or structure section within range no larger than a 20-ft. cube. It must make a structural save using its creator’s bonus if magical, or automatically fails if mundane and unattended. On a failure, it collapses into harmless edible fragments. Creatures in contact with it must make a DEX save, taking 66 (12d10) bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half on a success.
Absolute Appetite
For the duration, you are immune to poison and disease, have resistance to all damage except psychic, and your Matter Ingestion powers ignore resistance and immunity to acid, piercing, bludgeoning, and slashing damage unless the target is an Artifact or deity-level effect.
Devour the Unmade
Touch one non-Artifact magical effect, conjuration, barrier, portal, object, or structure section. If it is Tier 10 or lower, make a STR check against DC 10 + its tier. On a success, the target is consumed and ends or becomes inert. You regain 150 hit points or gain 150 temporary hit points, your choice.
World-Eater Maw
Your appetite erupts outward. Creatures of your choice in the emanation must make a DEX save, taking 88 (16d10) acid, piercing, or force damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Unattended non-Artifact objects and structures in the area take double damage.
Eat the World Seed
Consume a unique, GM-approved story material such as the heart of a mountain, a fallen star fragment, a divine feast, or a mythic monster’s remains. Choose one permanent adaptation appropriate to that material, such as a burrow speed, a resistance, a sense, a movement trait, or a harmless material-production trait. The adaptation cannot grant a full additional aspect, immortality, or an Artifact-level power without a story cost set by the GM.
